Weight Loss Goal, or Life Gain?

When it comes to your weight and your life, what do you really want?

I have a client who has lost about 45 pounds. She originally listed losing another 45 pounds as her coaching program goal. All along I have been talking with her about her ultimate weight management and wellness vision. I want her to finish this sentence: When I’m my best self, it means _____.

Would you be surprised to know that her answer has never involved losing those additional 45 pounds?

You see, she started out assumng she just wanted to lose 90 pounds. That’s all she thought about. But then she started to realize that what she actually wanted was her life back.

What do I mean by that? She wanted her confidence back. She wanted to be at peace with herself and how she handled the demands of life.

This came with grasping this idea: she is managing her weight forever, versus starting and stopping yet another diet.

During our last weight-loss coaching session we had a challenging conversation that lead to a breakthrough. She decided that at 45 pounds off of the original goal of 90, she was happier now, and she realized her satisfaction level was already an 8 out 10! She felt the thrill of being self-assured and open. She reset her weight total to 175, just 20 more pounds.

She said, “What’s different now, Roz, is I never thought about maintaining a weight loss. This is new for me and I like it!”
